Is our growing government reflecting our collective values

The question being asked is whether or not The Government Is Too Big. In the constitutional provision of "Promoting The General Welfare", would an 'Office Of Astronomy' be valuable?

The size of our government today is a product of the increased size of our collective knowledge in the various studies we have today, from medicine, to the understanding of the behavior of the multiplicity of creatures that inhabit the Earth and so many other "Scientific" scholastic Disciplines', the question becomes whether any of these is of value and given that they are, a reduction in any of their sizes becomes a question of their internal efficiencies and nothing more.

What will determine how we answer that question as individuals will be based on two very different ways we see the world today. Our bifurcated view can be better understood in the most important difference that we have; the contentions that might arise out of our religious views and our determination of "Truth"  instead, by the Greco-Roman dialectic; better known as: "Reason and Rationality".

Neither of these contending forces would disagree about The Nature Of Power in Individual hands.

Jefferson once said: "if men were angels, there would be no need of government". Then it must be the province of government to mitigate or ameliorate individual behavior in the form of police or armies to protect us from those evils.
